Broken Chords🎸

Image
🔬Have you ever felt being involved in some kind of twisted experiment? You begin a task and then got cut short abruptly, you get set back. You had to start the process over again, painstakingly. You continue with rocket focus, but the same thing happens. Like a chord broken while trying to sound a symphony. Wondering if good music can still come out of broken chords. Then, piece by piece you fall apart; but somewhere in between, something gives you hope, a clear sense of duty, you feel invincible even if for a moment. You carry on. 🎯In archery🎯, the farthest an arrow will go is directly proportional to the amount of force applied to set it back (pull) on the bowstring. Setbacks pushes the arrow forward. You can see it's trajectory but can't determine its destination until it lands. Same applies to humans. Sometimes we need that set back to launch us into greater heights. Heights we sometimes feel are to high for us to scale. It feels hard, the struggle to start over ag...

Dear Future Wife👩

👩I have a feeling we have met and probably made an acquaintance already. I am a Christian and I love God. I am African, pure blood; Yoruba, full breed. I have love but that's not all I have to give, I have much more. I don't want you looking all perfect, I know it's a scam. Your physical height should get to a level where my lips can meet yours without me breaking my neck, I am that tall😉. Please be ambitious at least to a level at which you can hold your own, I hate dormancy. Trust me, I have been praying against twins but if we are gifted my love for us all won't dwindle a bit. You all will be screwed to my heart. Trust me, my friends are few and loyal, you should accommodate them as I reciprocate; I believe family makes a man whole. 👾I like make-ups but anyone that'll make you look like my village masquerade please stay away from it. Focus on your intellect also. Trust me, I will like to take you out on all occasions therefore I'll support your goals....

I Saw God Today🗣

Apparently, it is advisable you keep a journal so you can evaluate your life as it progress or retrogress as the case may be. We will all have our fair share of ups and downs as long as we are born of a woman and have blood flowing in our veins. Some assume God is that mean creator waiting for us to make mistakes and then convict us for our sins. For some, He is that all knowing being who sits up there on his majestic throne governing us and "dictating" our lives. Some say, He made us knowing fully well that it's a sinful world, then why should he penalize us for committing sins. We are flawed by the flesh isn't it? I read an article a couple of months ago. The writer, a female, spoke about how people should not sell God to her. She wants to see him by herself. She doesn't believe there is a God unless He speaks to her. She wants Him to call her and have a conversation. She said if He doesn't speak with her personally, then, there is no God. She said, a...

On Love and Bliss🗣

🌐Life is full of coincidental connections, you should cherish these connections and these good connections will continue to be created. In the pages of any book you have adventures, you find that there are no limits to where you can go and who you can be. You discover that sometimes a place you are used to isn't the place you belong, you belong where you believe you belong. Love is one of such adventures we encounter in this "Long ride" called Life. This adventure (Love) might give you golden thrills, grow into a benign tumor or turn into a compilation of moments of frenzies. 💕Kendrick Lamar said, "Love is not just a verb, it's you looking in the mirror". Words are powerful. The work is in its combination. When you look into the mirror you see your reflection. Your perfect imperfections. Your sporadic victories. Your pyrrhic victories. Your pain. Your passion. Your faulty idealism. Your blooming grace. Your stark reality. Your despair. Your Sacrifices. ...

Twins Palava👬

Image
😀You people should know that English is hard, more reason I decided to write this the way it is coming to my mind. Grammarians biko don't fish for errors, e nu go, odikwa intentional. I hope you haf also noticed my embellishment of igbo language😀? 🚩So, in this section of the universe NYSC decided to throw me. Me was jejely strolling with my roomie and this chubby woman with two kids, one strapped to her back and the other in front, comman walk up to us saying, "corpers, twins are greeting you". Me kè, greeting me, twins that cannot talk yet abi? It is like you want to use us to play soft work. Did I say the woman was with a big black bag💼? I didn't abi, that's because I didn't notice at first. Me just kept walking o, I'm in no man's land, I cannot comman be talking too much to strangers. Na so my Mama teach me, you can ask her. 🏦Fast-forward two days later, I con go collect the change in my piggy bank, ATM to be precise. I saw mummy twins wi...

Pistols at dawn🗣 (A Short Story)

Image
🤦🏾‍♂Seriously, this service year has done me in. My place of primary assignment (PPA) did not provide accommodation for corps members so I had to make do with a one room apartment popularly known as "face me I face you". Living with the indigenes is fun, but today it became a bit sour as I recount my ordeal. 🏚I came back from my PPA tired to my bones and still had to do some running around till 7pm. Thereafter, I dashed to the bathroom which was reeking of an odour I couldn't fathom. I managed to take my bath, went back to my room and slept off almost immediately. My sleep😴 was sound as I didn't even know PHCN had restored power. 🔫Then I woke up to the sound of heavy banging on a door but I was sure it wasn't my door. It sounded like the main door which gives entrance into the house's passage. The people on the other side of the door started shouting, "open this door or else we'll break it down. At the count of three, if you don't open ...

You came prepared🗣

Image
⚔Hi everyone, hope you have been good and you all enjoyed the blessings the month of October brought with it? The challenges, yes the challenges too, I hope you had the fortitude to surmount them? Wow! That month has a special space in my heart, and I resonate with it every year because it is the month God decided to recruit my Dad into his heavenly team fifteen years ago. It made my life a test I didn't study for; but, I came prepared. 🗡Unless you don't believe there is a Creator who made the universe and every creature in it. The good book says it takes the Glory of God to conceal a matter and the honour of men to search it out. When we really search with our heart and mind, we will know that nothing evolves without an external force (seen or unseen) exerting an impact. However stiff we might seem to find our sojourn on earth, we should endeavour to trust the journey, knowing fully well that our creator sent us here prepared. 🛡Definitely, there will be twists and turn...

Children in same new clothes🗣

Image
☯Question for higher power: If you had a choice, would you want to grow old or rather stay forever young? Anyway, it is a rhetorical question because we don't really have a choice. As long as we are alive we are all subjected to the natural phenomenon called "aging". However, some people age with Grace while some don't, and the only thing both parties have at the end of the day will be memories of their juvenile years or memories they created while they had the chance. 👘Life is a highway and nobody gets out alive except you are a reincarnation of the biblical Enoch and Elijah. Life is in moments and we should all endeavour to make good memories. The creatures in my brain were becoming hyperactive and brought the thoughts of my younger years when my cousins, brothers and I would all put on the same type of clothing during any major festivity. We would visit different places in that same attire sometimes looking like those eulogising masquerades, but we gave no car...

To light the candle🕯

Image
At first I did it for the money and failed. I attempted for the accolades and derailed. Tried again for friends sake but got cut out. Pressured by relatives and still gave out. Alone, I picked the match stick In my smouldering ashes. I attempted. I lit the candle, Made it burn. In the end, I won, For me. ✍ Ogunlana A. Owolabi

Still Looking Forward🗣

Image
RE: Nigerians are a loving and strong people. My love for art just can't be caged. It is fast becoming my muse. This eye art with the title "still looking forward" (Artist_Unknown) is the perfect illustration for Nigeria and Nigerians and when I saw it online this piece came to my mind. Love is such a beautiful thing that nobody can ever deny no matter how it is conceived. Nigeria, we hail thee! This country will "show you pepper" no matter how you conceive it. It will bring down your idealism and make you humble. Still, in the midst of these, I am of the opinion that Nigerians are a loving and strong people. From the fact that Nigerians have wolverine's ability which enables us heal quick; to the fact that we thrived in an economic situation that Britain's prime minister said might have cut short the existence of his country. Nigerians, I hail thee. In Nigeria, the art of survival is a story that never ends but we have learnt to live above...

Not Me

Image
Not Me🗣 There are two sides to every matter and abstractions that exists. Life and death, success and failure, space and time, faith and chance. These and more are the forces of the world. They control every atom that revolves on this planet and the onus is on us to play whichever cards we are dealt to the best of our ability; however, we can also learn the sleight of hands (literarily though) so as to be able to control some aspects of every eventuality. When I was an undergraduate, one of my lecturers said, "whenever negative life events occur to people, they tend to wail, saying, why me? I ask them, why not you? These are natural occurrences which are bound to occur to anybody anytime and when it happens you should accept it and not wail in denial". Then I said to myself in a hush tone, not me, I wouldn't wait till something bad happens to me, I'll pray. I refuse to accept any disaster as a natural occurrence simply because it happens to other people. Not me...

The Lighthouse🗣

Image
🎥 A couple of days ago I saw a Chinese movie titled "Shock wave", in the movie there was a crime scene in which a bomb was strapped to the body of a young policeman who happened to be a hostage to some terrorists who had about four hundred more hostages. The young policeman was sent to the midst of his other colleagues and many onlookers with the timer counting down. He had some choices; either to let the bomb detonate in the midst of his colleagues and the onlookers, or to go back to the midst of the terrorists and the other hostages killing them all, or to stay where he'll be alone and thereby be the only casualty. Whatever choice he makes will have a lasting effect physically or emotionally on other people. What choice do you think he made? Back to the topic. ...................................................................... 🗼A lighthouse is a tower topped by a powerful light used as a beacon to warn and guide ships. Therefore, a lighthouse is something peop...

Start Now

Image
Start when the pain is deep, Start when the light seems dim. Start when the ecstasy has waned, Start when the mind seems tamed. Start when the road is rough, Start when the path seems tough. Start when the winter comes, Start when the rain endlessly pours. Start when the wind is fierce, Start when the summer brings tears. Start when the ink seems blurry, Start when the tears flow endlessly. Start when the cold is bone chilling, Start when the heat seems scorching. Start when the night is still young, Start when the day seems long. Start when the die is cast, Start when the rhythm seems lost. Start when the laughter peaks, just start , Start Now , 'cos Now Is All You Have! ✍🏾 Ogunlana A. Owolabi

Our Pentagon🗣

Image
As time passes on, life will show you it's own arrangements. There are a plethora of reasons why we are here and some of us will have to figure it out as we go, some early, some later as life is a highway with twists and turns and you sure know as I do that nobody gets out alive. We've got to do what we have to do here and now but the most important factor will be how well we enjoy our journey. 🎥Cut! Cut! Cut! That's not the crux of the matter. Read till the end... ..................................................................... The United States of America🇱🇷 prides itself as the strongest country in the world and this is due to the amount of money she pumps into her defense sector. Any nation who will conquer U.S.A will be the nation that will successfully highjack "The Pentagon".  For those that don't like mathematics, don't be scared I am not talking about polygons here. The Pentagon is a metonym used to refer to the headquarters of U.S.A...

You are the reason I lost my sleep

Image
My brother always warned me against them, especially those I meet at night (late nights). Truth be told, I don't know how you did it but I'm writing this so the world would know and learn from this experience. Read to the end... ..................................................................... You hold me steadfast with your alluring grip and even though you give me rumbles, I still can't let go of you because anytime I am with you my satisfaction knows no bounds. Your charm holds me close and keeps me satisfied like no other. You give me joy with the shape of you. You alone cannot give me the joy I desire unless I have a threesome with your sister. Your mother must be skilled giving birth to both dark and light skinned daughters. Lest I forget, why do your mother take you out only at night? Are you karashikas? It all started that evening when your mother took both of you for an outing while I sat outside chilling with my roomie not knowing that you'l...

All gave some and Some gave all

❤Love - ⏳Time - ☠Death (Military Men's Perspective) For all our deeds after its done, our ideas after its realisation, our words after its spoken, our thoughts after its penned, our feelings after its expressed; we finally subject the indices to an audience of one, in secret, with no applause, coming heads on with the image that reflects in the mirror, that's when we truly get to our moment of validation. I love the Uniformed men, especially the Soldiers. The discipline, charisma, loyalty and utmost dedication with which they carryout their duties and live their lives one day at a time because the next minute is not assured. I had a stint at a military school for part of my junior secondary education and though I wasn't well informed then, the memories of the treatment we were given by the Officers and Men is still endearing (well personally). More so, I've seen myriads of good Hollywood Military movies, from Marines to Navy Seals, and read about them in bo...

Let he who is without sin be the first to cast the stone...

Those words came to me at the NYSC orientation camp which is besieged by long queues for virtually everything you do for those "interesting" twenty-one days. You arrive at the camp on the first day to be welcomed by a long queue due to the search for contraband materials such as electric socket, pressing iron, boiling ring etc. As if the journey from our various destinations wasn't irksome enough, we still had to queue for another form which I think should have been done online with the former registrations. Then came the assignment of hostels and bed space which literally was no issue at all but at least that marked the end of a tiresome journey of the first day on camp. The second day came after a "very long night rest from 10pm to 4am", which we were supposed to prepare for morning drills with our various platoons and military officials but that isn't the bane of this write-up so as not to prolong issues. At 8am, breakfast was ready which was brought ...

Be Relentless...

Image
A while ago, we had water issues in my house and my immediate younger brother and I always had to wake up very early to fetch water from a nearby tap which we would pay and still wait in line for our turns despite all the bickering as you would find in most places where water is being sold. As God would have it, a new pumping machine was bought and the water issue was solved once and for all. As we all know, the machine is dependent on electricity and P.H.C.N isn't our friend in my area which my neighbours can testify to. Therefore, whenever P.H.C.N restores power, the onus is on whoever is at home to dash to the machine's switch to pump water. This particular day, I was at home dealing with the heat in all its glory and to my utmost surprise, the "Power Hoarders" decided to gift us electricity, I dashed downstairs to pump water and I saw one of the most fascinating scenario I've ever witnessed... I saw a plant growing alone surrounded by a cemented floor, I too...

I define me

Image
Thinking about ole memories. Low self-esteem is a bast***. Those years when my class mates taunt me for being too thin, yes THIN, they said, I'll always say slim but my efforts to change their perception didn't hold water but it didn't matter because I was bustling with energy. Energy to do what? Lemme just continue... Fast track to 2002, my woes compounded when The man gave up the ghost, then I was naked, self-esteem melted, timidity set in, their opinions mattered, grades faltered, my identity lost... On becoming, I learnt to be comfortable in my own skin...smiles, even joked about being used as a specimen in an anatomy class and get paid for it. The sole lesson learnt is, even when the world puts you down, get back up, dust your clothes and keep on moving. P.S: I define me.

My 17 year old self

Image
Tick tock tick tock, the sound the clock makes which every human on earth follow strictly, forgetting that life doesn't come with instructions. At age nine, a child is in basic nine and his counterpart is in basic four, it's based on timing. I cringe when I see teachers flog pupils because they don't seem to understand what is being taught. Instead of teaching using various methods so as to carry as many pupils along, they keep saying "your mates know this and that, why are you so dumb". Psychology says that mental age is not equal to chronological age, which means, two children might be of the same age while their intelligence quotient is miles apart. I can say categorically that Pre-seventeen years old, I was living a borrowed life. Very naive of even the slightest of things, sometimes I wonder how I survived. In school especially, never aced, coy, never felt among but the genius thing my teachers did was not to beat me for failing or passing on trial. Truth...

Perfect Submission

Image
Wives submit to your husbands blah blah blah... I presume y'all know I'm not married yet, so I reserve no right in my tribe (Yoruba) to talk about how a male should kiss his girlfriend slowly (forgive me, I said it already), talkless of issues pertaining to marriage, odikwa complicated. This isn't about that, just stay glued... If you play the game of chess, you'll know that once the King is captured, the pawns and every other characters surrender. In any war, if you read about Napoleon Bonaparte, Alexander the great, Hannibal of Carthage and some of the world's greatest Generals; once they are captured the war is finished as in the case of the Philistines and Israelites when David defeated Goliath. What if our creator decides to take something away from you? Can you protest? Fight back? Repel His decision? Say NO? It's a case of PERFECT SUBMISSION. There are people who God decided to take away their husbands (widows) for reasons best known to him (lets ...

Pan-Religious Bullies

Image
⛪❤  ❤ You all know who Bullies are, right? Yes, they pick on people physically, take them to a secluded corner and deal with them; is that all? No. There are also people who pick on you Emotionally or based on your views about a subject matter which they can't seem to accept, they still qualify to be called bullies. I've had my fair share of the later category of bullies over time. In this context, I'll term them Pan-Religious Bullies. Hmmm... ☯ During his lifetime, Fela Ransome-Kuti, later Fela Anikulapo-Kuti was absolutely Pan-African. He held his views so much he took them to his grave. Was he a Hero? In his own clime, Yes. Did he really do something to effect change like the Mandela, Malcom X and Ghandi-s of this world? Subjective. Truly, history remembers the Legends and forgets the Men. I believe that one of the greatest signs of an educated mind, not necessarily a literate is the ability to entertain other people's non violent and  non demeaning views, cultu...

I rehearse my Joy

Image
I rehearse my joy. In a closed room, sitting in the dark all by myself, I practice my laugh. Eyes closed. Stomach clenched. I let it bubble from my inside, hang on my tongue, fall out into the silence. Again and again, until I have learnt every twist, every knot, every blend and every hole. I master it all. You cannot stop my happiness. I have come prepared. -Tochi Eze- Sometime ago, during one of my online skimming galore I came across this quote by Socrates, "Employ your time in improving yourself by other men’s writings so that you shall gain easily what others have laboured hard for".  This brings me to the thought that writers are the unsung heroes of our creative community just like teachers, they pour out their minds in books after careful study, research overtime or personal experiences so as to make more minds enlightened and the world a better place. That's why a writers never die, they leave us with overwhelming imagination which we apply to our practical ...

Morning Meditation

Image
👨One of the cardinal activities in N.Y.S.C orientation camps is the morning meditation and drills. The mediation is required to be written and delivered by one member of each platoon each day except Sundays. I was a member of platoon 3 (which had the "discipline" mantra) in my camp at Ekiti state and had the privilege of writing and delivering the second morning meditation for my platoon. So, I felt like sharing it on this platform too ...................................................................... Platoon 3 Morning Meditation🗣 ♠The labour of our heroes past shall never be in vain. This is a line we recite everyday because their generation was known for something worthwhile. I put it to you this morning my fellow corps members that our generation will be known for nothing; never will we be called the pride of our time if we fail to uphold and live by this core value called discipline. 📚According to Merriam Webster dictionary, discipline is a form of t...

My Cloud Atlas

Image
Well you don't have to trust this, but life is not a bad joke. In my seventeen years of existence and six years of truly living and being alive, I've come to terms with one basic fact which can be stated succinctly, "the meaning of life is different for everyone". Being an extroverted loner, I have no problem making friends or being social, but often choose to be alone when i'm not working, not because of insecurity or fear but because it's just me in all my imperfect glory enjoying my own company. I spend quality time with lots of friends; but I won't shy away from saying "NO" when an afternoon/night in by myself sounds better than an afternoon/night out at any gathering, and I won't be apologetic about it, my pals can affirm that. There are basic factors or should I say help mates who make this an enjoyable ride. Music  _This is really my escape. If music were to be a lady, I would Love her to her bones.  It serves as the connection be...
