A player or a spectator🔮

Image
I was born on a Thursday, in a part of the country where the sun never sets nor rises. My natal hour will return in a couple of days and I'll be left with the remainder of my years. My cup is getting filled, now at its quarter I believe. As we continue to navigate this planet, it's apparent that life is best lived with beings you love and love you in return. At the moment of penning this musing, only three things are germane; my notepad, my pen and me. No, flip that part, it's actually; my phone, my keypad and me. These tools make writers who they are, let me tell you what I mean. In any sport, there are two main groups of people, players (who get paid) and spectators (who cheer players on). Life itself have these two sets of people. People who get involved and work their socks off (players), and people who trail the first set of people (spectators). My younger brother taught me indirectly that progress rarely comes from those who are content and secure, it comes from t...

The Window

Image
The Window👁 Our eyes are the windows to our souls. It tells our history; what we've seen and where we've been. It tells our struggles; the demons we've faced and the pains we overcame. It tells our strength; the difficulties we've endured and the effort to keep pushing. It tells our beauty; the cracks in our souls and the essence of our being. It tells our emotions; the joy in our spirits and the anger in our minds. Its imagery is our window, our light, our opening beyond the horizon. People think you can't be tall if you're short, that you can't be strong if you're not. A weakness is only a weakness if you think of it that way. Never under any circumstances give up the high ground. Before you draw your sword you must make an impression on your enemy, if he is deceived by the way you look the battle's half won. In the end, your window will be the judge, telling the truth from falsity. ✍ Ogunlana A. Owolabi Graphics: Ogunlana A...

The Blaze of Glory👑

Image
I saw a movie sometime ago, titled "Black Gold". This movie delve neck deep into a myriad of issues we encounter as humans during the course of our lives. One of the main actors made a statement and I quote, "anything worth its salt is either earned through sweat or love". This statement might sound simple, but like Leonardo Da Vinci said, "simplicity is the ultimate sophistication".  We have seen people who we consider rich, but when asked what they do for a living, can't give a valid answer without ruminating on a reply which they feel is pleasing to the ear. Prosperity is not just about making money, it's about the dignity behind it. Many a politician who siphon tax payers money from the government coffers will never get rated on Forbes list because the source of their wealth is questionable. When one search deep down everything one is proud to have acquired overtime, one will realise that it is either earned through sweat or love. ...

To be yourself, To be your best

😀The year 2017 was great! To all my readers, may each day of 2018 be vibrant and new, bringing along many reasons for celebrations. I pray this year gives you a relaxed mind, a peaceful soul, a joyful spirit, a healthy body and greater accomplishments. Happy new year to you all. 👼It is certain that the year 2017 has come and gone. It came with its opportunities, hopes, attempts, mistakes, lessons and triumphs. Summed up, 2017 was a great year for me and most of us I hope. I came to terms with some realities which will stay with me till the sun grows cold. Let me share some: 👣Starting _ I learnt that the most important factor after having a conviction and plan about an endeavour is the courage to start. Most ideas when concieved don't come out fully formed, they flourish as you begin to work on them. The " lhabyslane.blogspot.com " is a testament to this fact. I told myself that I'll start writing when I buy a laptop, but when I finally started, I di...

Broken Chords🎸

Image
🔬Have you ever felt being involved in some kind of twisted experiment? You begin a task and then got cut short abruptly, you get set back. You had to start the process over again, painstakingly. You continue with rocket focus, but the same thing happens. Like a chord broken while trying to sound a symphony. Wondering if good music can still come out of broken chords. Then, piece by piece you fall apart; but somewhere in between, something gives you hope, a clear sense of duty, you feel invincible even if for a moment. You carry on. 🎯In archery🎯, the farthest an arrow will go is directly proportional to the amount of force applied to set it back (pull) on the bowstring. Setbacks pushes the arrow forward. You can see it's trajectory but can't determine its destination until it lands. Same applies to humans. Sometimes we need that set back to launch us into greater heights. Heights we sometimes feel are to high for us to scale. It feels hard, the struggle to start over ag...

Dear Future Wife👩

Image
👩I have a feeling we have met and probably made an acquaintance already. I am a Christian and I love God. I am African, pure blood; Yoruba, full breed. I have love but that's not all I have to give, I have much more. I don't want you looking all perfect, I know it's a scam. Your physical height should get to a level where my lips can meet yours without me breaking my neck, I am that tall😉. Please be ambitious at least to a level at which you can hold your own, I hate dormancy. Trust me, I have been praying against twins but if we are gifted my love for us all won't dwindle a bit. You all will be screwed to my heart. Trust me, my friends are few and loyal, you should accommodate them as I reciprocate; I believe family makes a man whole. 👾I like make-ups but anyone that'll make you look like my village masquerade please stay away from it. Focus on your intellect also. Trust me, I will like to take you out on all occasions therefore I'll support your goals....

I Saw God Today🗣

Image
Apparently, it is advisable you keep a journal so you can evaluate your life as it progress or retrogress as the case may be. We will all have our fair share of ups and downs as long as we are born of a woman and have blood flowing in our veins. Some assume God is that mean creator waiting for us to make mistakes and then convict us for our sins. For some, He is that all knowing being who sits up there on his majestic throne governing us and "dictating" our lives. Some say, He made us knowing fully well that it's a sinful world, then why should he penalize us for committing sins. We are flawed by the flesh isn't it? I read an article a couple of months ago. The writer, a female, spoke about how people should not sell God to her. She wants to see him by herself. She doesn't believe there is a God unless He speaks to her. She wants Him to call her and have a conversation. She said if He doesn't speak with her personally, then, there is no God. She said, a...

On Love and Bliss🗣

Image
🌐Life is full of coincidental connections, you should cherish these connections and these good connections will continue to be created. In the pages of any book you have adventures, you find that there are no limits to where you can go and who you can be. You discover that sometimes a place you are used to isn't the place you belong, you belong where you believe you belong. Love is one of such adventures we encounter in this "Long ride" called Life. This adventure (Love) might give you golden thrills, grow into a benign tumor or turn into a compilation of moments of frenzies. 💕Kendrick Lamar said, "Love is not just a verb, it's you looking in the mirror". Words are powerful. The work is in its combination. When you look into the mirror you see your reflection. Your perfect imperfections. Your sporadic victories. Your pyrrhic victories. Your pain. Your passion. Your faulty idealism. Your blooming grace. Your stark reality. Your despair. Your Sacrifices. ...

😀You people should know that English is hard, more reason I decided to write this the way it is coming to my mind. Grammarians biko don't fish for errors, e nu go, odikwa intentional. I hope you haf also noticed my embellishment of igbo language😀? 🚩So, in this section of the universe NYSC decided to throw me. Me was jejely strolling with my roomie and this chubby woman with two kids, one strapped to her back and the other in front, comman walk up to us saying, "corpers, twins are greeting you". Me kè, greeting me, twins that cannot talk yet abi? It is like you want to use us to play soft work. Did I say the woman was with a big black bag💼? Na so my Mama teach me, you can ask her. 🏦Fast-forward two days later, I con go collect the change in my piggy bank, ATM to be precise. I saw mummy twins wi...

Pistols at dawn🗣 (A Short Story)

Image
🤦🏾‍♂Seriously, this service year has done me in. My place of primary assignment (PPA) did not provide accommodation for corps members so I had to make do with a one room apartment popularly known as "face me I face you". Living with the indigenes is fun, but today it became a bit sour as I recount my ordeal. 🏚I came back from my PPA tired to my bones and still had to do some running around till 7pm. Thereafter, I dashed to the bathroom which was reeking of an odour I couldn't fathom. I managed to take my bath, went back to my room and slept off almost immediately. My sleep😴 was sound as I didn't even know PHCN had restored power. 🔫Then I woke up to the sound of heavy banging on a door but I was sure it wasn't my door. It sounded like the main door which gives entrance into the house's passage. The people on the other side of the door started shouting, "open this door or else we'll break it down. At the count of three, if you don't open ...
